description GATE CLOSURE: The park gates are locked in the evenings during the following hours: January 1 - February 29: 7:00 pm - 7:00 am March 1 - Thursday before Memorial Day: 8:00 pm - 7:00 am Friday before Memorial day - Labor Day: 9:00 pm - 7:00 am Tuesday after Labor Day: 8:00 pm - 7:00 am November 1 - December 31: 7:00 pm - 7:00 am When gates are locked, there is no vehicle access into or out of the park. Information regarding the gate closure is available at the park, during the camping reservation process, and online at the State Park website. To maintain a safe overnight parking program, volunteer campground hosts are onsite 24 hours a day, and emergency personnel have the ability to access the facilities as needed. Campers are informed to contact a campground host or call 911 if there is an emergency after day use hours. While some campers may be inconvenienced by the nightly closure, an extra level of security is provided by eliminating vehicles driving in the park that are not associated with campers. Not having these vehicles in the park at night reduces the hazard to children and pedestrians, reduces noise and vandalism, and reduces opportunities for theft of camping gear. For those inconvenienced by the nightly closure due to special circumstances, please check with park employees for options for alternate parking locations and park access. All Sites at Silver Strand SB now have water and electrical hook ups. If you are interested in having a RV delivered and set up on your campsite at San Elijo, Silver Strand, or South Carlsbad State Beach Campgrounds, the following Concessionaires are the approved contract providers: Albert's RV (858) 598-5829, Luv 2 Camp (888) 898-2267, MLG Enterprises RV Rentals (760) 458-8510, and Travel Time RV (800) 787-3689. No other RV vendors will be allowed to deliver RVs to the Campground. Due to the natural sandy conditions, wind, and limited staffing, campers are encouraged to assist in moving sand and maintaining their campsites. A limited number of shovels and brooms are available for borrowing at the campground kiosk or campers may bring their own. Silver Strand State Beach features extensive beaches on both the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay. Combined with the area's mild climate, the beaches make Silver Strand one of the area's finest recreation destinations. Camping, swimming, surfing, boating, water-skiing, volleyball, and picnicking are popular activities. Anglers can fish for perch, corbina, grunion, and yellow-fin croaker. Shade ramadas, tables, barbecue pits, and fire rings may be available in the day use area. South of the developed area, there are one and a half miles of ocean and natural preserve. Strolling along the beach, visitors can see moonsnails, concleshells, and an occasional sand dollar in the sand. Through a unique collaboration with CA State Parks and the CA Department of Boating & Waterways, Southwestern College operates the Crown Cove Aquatic Center (CCAC) at Silver Strand State Beach (SSSB). To learn more about CCAC programs and activities available to the general public and guests of SSSB, including courses and rentals, CLICK HERE Check the State Parks website for additional information on the weather, suggested day hikes, or to see the park brochure, campground map, park photos, video, and more.
